Being Heart-Centered - without taking ourselves too seriously

Theresa Mozzocci | FEB 1

February has a way of putting hearts front and center – romantic hearts, chocolate hearts, emojis everywhere. This month reminds us to lean into something different: being heart-centered without taking ourselves too seriously.

In yoga, heart-centered doesn’t mean forcing big backbends or striving for the deepest expression of a pose. It means paying attention. It means noticing when the body wants to open and when it’s asking for a little more support, space, or rest. Some days that shows up as strength and expansion; other days it looks more like softness and restraint. Both are valid. Both are yoga.

Yogis’ learn to practice with curiosity instead of judgment. To let go of the idea that every class needs to feel amazing or productive. Some practices will feel light and energizing. Others might feel grounding, quiet, or even a little awkward – and that’s okay. Those “in-between” days are often where the most meaningful work happens.

Let this month be a little lighter. A little kinder. A little less serious. Let your heart lead, but don’t forget to bring you sense of humor along with it. Most importantly, remember your yoga practice exists to support you, not the other way around. You don’t need to earn rest. You don’t need to push past your limits to prove anything. Showing up as you are – tired, energized, distracted, focused – is more than enough.

I am so grateful to practice with you and to share this space together.

Class Highlight: Join Satsanga Yoga this month to explore heart openers thoughtfully, balancing front-body opening with the strength that keep us safe. Roll out your mat to focus on breath as a guide, not a goal. And we’ll remember that wobbling, laughing, resting, or modifying doesn’t mean you’re doing less – it means you’re listening.
