My classes are designed to flow and get our bodies moving – but a more mindful practice also adds lots of benefits. Meditation is a practice that provides a range of physical, mental and emotional benefits. Meditation techniques, such as mindfulness and deep breathing, activate the body’s relaxation response, leading to a decrease in the production of stress hormones.
One form of this is Yoga Nidra, which is often referred to as yogic sleep, and is a form of meditation that induces a state of deep relaxation while maintaining full consciousness. A regular practice of Yoga Nidra can help alleviate insomnia and improve the quality of sleep. The guided relaxation techniques assist in calming the mind and preparing the body for restful sleep. The practice will bring the yogi to a state of wakefulness and sleep, where the body and mind are fully relaxed, yet still alert and aware.
