January 2024 New Year - Soar to new heights

Happy 2024! Starting a new year is always a little refreshing and symbolizes new beginnings, opportunities for growth and the passage of time. In yoga, we have what we call: Sankalpa. A sankalpa is a positive statement declaring who you are becoming in the next 6 to 18 months; it is a heart centered truth about your path.
The New Year is a popular time for setting resolutions or goals for self-improvement in various aspects of life.
Personally, I do not make resolutions for the New Year but during the month of my birthday. During that month, I make a list of goals and things I’d like to accomplish (rather than change) for the year ahead. They can be challenging and big goals (think bucket list) or very simple goals (think reading a specific book). Throughout the year, as I get stuck or feel unmotivated, I review these goals/challenge to give myself a little push. Some goals make the list year after year. I do not punish myself for not accomplishing all the goals I have set but I do acknowledge myself for checking one off the list.
The New Year is also a time for reflection on the past year’s achievements, challenges, and lessons learned, as well as for expressing gratitude and letting go of regrets. This year I was able to get my website and online business up and running. While I didn’t hit all the goals I had for my yoga business – part of what I needed to learn this year was to be proud of the little steps forward.
Join Satsanga Yoga on your mat to move your body and show up for yourself; start a routine that you can stick with throughout 2024.
