June 2023 Summer Solstice

Theresa Mozzocci | JUN 1, 2023

Hello! Welcome to Satsanga Yoga’s June 2023 Newsletter

The longest day of the year falls in June – aka The Summer Solstice. This signifies the transition into the prosperous, abundant times of summer, where we have more opportunities to connect with ourselves and with nature. In the days leading up to the summer solstice, ancient Romans celebrated Vesta, the goddess of the hearth, home and family. In yoga, it is a time of honoring the earth and the sun’s blessing of warmth and light.

Summer yoga is inspired by the sun and the light within each of us. The cycle of the sun represents the cycle of our lives and reflects the natural flow of energy moving inward and outward. The Summer Solstice reminds us to turn inward and find the nourishment needed to grow and evolve. We must foster trust and confidence in ourselves – even if we go through some troubled times. Summer reminds us that there is hope in the world, of our ability to be the light and inspire others. We can nurture others, just as the sun nurtures us.

As summer kicks off, Satsanga Yoga invites you to revel in the beauty of nature in your practice, and in your life. Let the solar energies of the summer nourish and support you.

Class Highlight: On June 21st, start the day with a 30-minute practice to kick off the summer solstice. In honor of the sun, we will spend the entire 30 minutes doing Sun Salutation A’s (variations). The Sun Salutation A sequence is at the heart of our vinyasa flow classes. It helps us become centered, grounded and therefore, present on our mats. They offer a treasure trove of health and wellness benefits. This class is designed to start your day feeling more centered, strong, flexible, grateful, joyful and balanced. It will raise your heart rate, tone muscle, increase mobility and boost your immune system.
